PTK7

PTK7, also knowns as CCK4, is a cell surface protein that belongs to the receptor protein tyrosine kinase family. The PTK7 protein consists of an intracellular domain with tyrosine kinase homology. Previous studies reveal that it is highly expressed in lung, liver, kidney, placenta and melanocytes and is weakly expressed in thyroid gland, ovary, brain, heart and skeletal muscle.

As a protein kinase, PTK7 plays an essential role in transducing extracellular signals across the cell membrane. More specifically, PTK7 works as a signal amplifier or modulator for the Wnt pathways, plexin and Flt-1 pathways. Earlier reports have shown that PTK7 is involved in colon carcinoma development and/or proliferation and recently it has been developed as a target for cancer treatments by generating an antibody-drug conjugate against the PTK7 receptor.
