- Overview
- PDGFRA, platelet-derived growth factor receptor A, also known as PDGFRα, platelet-derived growth factor receptor α, or CD140a, differentiation cluster 140a, is a receptor located on the surface of various cell types. The receptor binds to certain isoforms of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), thereby becoming active in cell signaling pathways that stimulate reactions that cause reactions such as cell growth and differentiation. This receptor is essential for the development of certain tissues and organs during embryogenesis and for maintaining them throughout life, especially blood tissues. The mutation in the gene encoding PDGFRA, the PDGFRA gene, is associated with a series of clinically significant tumors.
