Tenascin C (TN-C) is a glycoprotein that is encoded by the TNC gene in humans. It is expressed in the extracellular matrix of various tissues during development, disease, or injury, as well as in areas of the central nervous system where neurogenic sources are restricted. Tenascin C is a founding member of the tenascin family. In the embryo, it is made by migrating nerve c and other cells. It is also abundant in the development of tendons, bones and cartilage.
