AOC3

Amine oxidase, copper containing 3 (AOC3), also known as HPAO, SSAO, or VAP-1, is an enzyme in humans encoded by the AOC3 gene on chromosome 17 q21 and has an exon count of 6. AOC3 belongs to the semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO) family and it is correlated with a variety of vascular diseases. This protein is a type 1 membrane-bound glycoprotein which comprises a distal adhesion domain and an enzymatically active amine oxidase site outside of the membrane. AOC3 is induced under inflammatory conditions and enhances lymphocyte recirculation. It can mediate the binding of lymphocytes to peripheral lymph node vascular endothelial cells independent of L-selectin.
AOC3 has adhesive properties, functional monoamine oxidase activity, and probably plays a role in glucose handling, leukocyte trafficking, and migration during inflammation. AOC3 is associated with cancer cell extravasation of cells that invade the endothelial cell layer of other organs and tissues. It has also been demonstrated to be related to poor prognosis. Besides, it is a marker to measure the myofibroblast phenotype of CAF, and the myofibroblast facilitates cancer cell migration and invasion.
