ITGB3

Integrin subunit beta 3 (ITGB3), also known as GT, CD61, GP3A, BDPLT2, GPIIIa, or BDPLT16, is a protein subunit for integrins. Integrins are integral cell-surface proteins that contain several subunits, namely alpha chains and beta chains. They are known to participate in cell adhesion as well as cell-surface mediated signaling. Integrins are highly diverse in protein structures since a given subunit chain may combine with multiple partners. Integrin beta 3 is found in platelets along with the alpha IIb chain. Two isoforms of integrin beta 3, beta-3A and beta-3C have been identified and they exert different expression patterns: isoform beta-3A is specifically expressed in osteoblast cells while the expression of beta-3C is mainly in prostate and testis.

A defective in β3 integrin subunit expression has been demonstrated to correlate with endometriosis. It is also being used as a putative marker for this condition.
