LOXL2

Lysyl oxidase like 2 (LOXL2), also known as LOR or WS9-14, encoded by LOXL2 gene, is a member of the lysyl oxidase family. It has a highly conserved amino acid sequence at the C-terminus end to be qualified for amine oxidase activity, and a poorly conserved N-terminus to act as other roles in developmental regulation, aging, tumor inhibition, cell growth regulation, and chemotaxis to each member of the family. In addition, LOXL2, as a copper-dependent amine oxidase, plays an important role in the biogenesis of connective tissue. It catalyzes the first step in the formation of crosslinks in collagens and elastin.
The LOXL2 is widely expressed in multiple human tissues, such as appendix, endometrium, fat, placenta, urinary bladder and so on. It is proved that LOXL2 is associated with the progression of diseases, including hepatocellular carcinoma, familial intracranial aneurysms, pancreatic cancer, familial intracranial aneurysm, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, lung cancer. It can thus be seen that LOXL2 is a potential therapeutic target against tumor progression.
