2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) is a specific trisaccharide and one of the most abundant Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs). It is composed of a fucose unit linked to a lactose disaccharide. As a prebiotic, 2'-FL is not digested by the infant but is fermented by beneficial gut bacteria. It also plays a key role in protecting against pathogens by acting as a decoy molecule, preventing their attachment to intestinal cells.
