Chitosan oligosaccharide

Full Name
Chitosan oligosaccharide

Background
Chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) is a short-chain polymer of D-glucosamine units, derived from the enzymatic or chemical hydrolysis of chitosan. Chitosan itself is produced by deacetylating chitin. Due to its lower molecular weight, COS is highly soluble and possesses enhanced bioavailability compared to the parent chitosan polymer. It is a subject of intense research for its potential applications in medicine and nutrition, including its role as a prebiotic and its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
