Difucosylpentaose is a general term for an oligosaccharide composed of five sugar units, two of which are fucose. This compound is often a key component of Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs). These non-digestible carbohydrates act as prebiotics, supporting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria in infants and acting as decoy molecules to prevent the adhesion of certain pathogens.
