Isoglobotetraose is a specific glycosphingolipid and a key carbohydrate epitope found on the surface of mammalian cells. Its structure is a tetrasaccharide chain attached to a ceramide lipid. This compound is closely related to the P blood group system and is a receptor for various pathogens, including the Shiga toxin from certain strains of E. coli.
