Background
Isomaltopentaose is a linear oligosaccharide composed of five D-glucose units linked by α-(1,6)-glycosidic bonds. This compound is a structural fragment of dextran and other polysaccharides with α-(1,6) linkages. It is not found in common dietary starches but is used as a research standard for studying the specificity of various carbohydrate-active enzymes, particularly dextranases.
