Background
Laminaran, also known as laminarin, is a storage glucan (a polysaccharide made of glucose units) found in brown algae. It is an important carbohydrate reserve for seaweeds, serving a similar function to starch in land plants. The structure of laminaran is a linear chain of β-(1,3)-D-glucan with occasional β-(1,6)-D-glucan branching. Due to its β-glucan structure, it has been studied for its various biological properties, including its potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities.
