Background
Xylobiose is a disaccharide consisting of two D-xylose units linked by a β-(1,4)-glycosidic bond. It is the fundamental repeating unit of xylan, a major component of hemicellulose in plant cell walls. Xylobiose is a member of the Xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS) family, which are known for their strong prebiotic effects. It is not hydrolyzed by human digestive enzymes but is selectively utilized by beneficial gut bacteria.
