CREKA is a tumor-homing pentapeptide (Cys-Arg-Glu-Lys-Ala) that specifically binds to fibrin-fibronectin complexes, which are often found in tumor vasculature models. Its terminal cysteine enables thiol-mediated bioconjugation to nanostructured carriers, such as gold nanoparticles. This conjugation has been shown to enhance accumulation in certain in vivo models, making it a useful tool for directed nanoparticle research.
