Introduction of Neurology

Neurology encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions and diseases affecting the nervous system, drawing heavily from scientific inquiry into neurobiology. Bispecific Antibodies (BsAbs) in Neurology

An exciting application of BsAbs lies in their ability to breach the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to target mediators of pathogenesis in neurological disorders. The BBB traditionally poses a barrier to monospecific antibody therapy. Nevertheless, a BsAb designed to target both β-site APP-cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) and the transferrin receptor (TfR) presents a resolution to this obstacle. Following binding to TfR, the BsAb in circulation undergoes transportation into the brain through receptor-mediated transcytosis. Due to the relatively weak affinity between the BsAb and TfR, it can dissociate from the endothelium and penetrate the brain, where it engages the disease mediator BACE1 with its other binding arm. Preclinical investigations have revealed the capacity of this BsAb to alleviate symptoms associated with Alzheimer's disease.
