Background

B7RP1, also designated as ICOS ligand (ICOSL, ICOSLG), CD275, and B7H2, is a glycosylated transmembrane protein. It belongs to the B7 family with high homology with CD80/CD86, but does not share the expression pattern of other B7 members. B7RP1 is expressed not only on hematopoietic cells, but also on other tissue cells in inflammation conditions. It is the only ligand of ICOS, which plays various roles during secondary immune responses, regulating multiple biological activities of T cells, and participating in the antibody secretion from B cells, as well as cytokine production. The interaction between ICOS and B7RP1 promotes primed T cell differentiation into numerous subsets in many aspects. There is great potential for targeting ICOS/ B7RP1 to deal with autoimmune disorders and other diseases.
