DNMT1 (DNA methyltransferase 1), also referred to AIM, MCMT or CXXC9, is a protein coding gene located at the chromosome 19p13.2 and provides an instruction for a 183 kDa DNA methyltransferase 1. The methyl group is composed of one carbon atom and three hydrogen atoms. And this enzyme is implicated in DNA methylation that is the addition of methyl groups to DNA molecules. Specifically, it assists to add methyl groups to DNA blocks, nucleotides called cytosines (C). DNA methylation is essential for mammalian epigenetic gene regulation and in human, aberrant methylation patterns are found on tumors and correlated with developmental abnormalities. Variation in DNMT1 gene has associations with several diseases including deafness, narcolepsy, neuropathy, Type Ie, cerebellar ataxia, autosomal dominant and hereditary sensory. SHH (Sonic hedgehog), also known as Shh unprocessed N-terminal signaling and C-terminal autoprocessing domains, sonic hedgehog (Drosophila) homolog 2, ShhNC, SMMCI, TPT, HHG1, HLP3, HPE3, TPTPS or MCOPCB5, is a 49.6 kDa secreted protein that is synthesized as a precursor molecule of 462 amino acids. In humans, it is encoded by the SHH gene mapping at the chromosome 7q36.3. This gene codes for a protein that contributes to pattern the early embryo. It has been involved as the vital inductive signal in patterning of the ventral neural tube, the ventral somites, and the anterior-posterior limb axis. SHH is regarded the most widely expressed member in the hedgehog family. It is implicated in the development of axial skeleton, floor plate, gut endoderm, spinal cord, notochord, and posterior limb. In adults, SHH plays a role in the hair follicle growth and cycle.
