Background

IL-2R (Interleukin 2 receptor) is a heterotrimeric protein that is expressed, either temporary or permanent, on the surface of almost all hematopoietic cells involving lymphoid linages T, B, and NK cells, and myeloid. IL-2R can bind and respond to a cytokine referred to IL-2. IL-2R consists of three distinct polypeptide subunits including alpha chain (IL-2Rα, CD25), beta chain (IL-2Rβ, CD122), and gamma chain (IL-2Rγc, CD132). IL-2Rα (alias: Tac antigen or p55) of human is located on chromosome 10p14-15. IL-2Rβ is encoded on chromosome 22q11.2-12 and the gene for the IL-2Rγc is on chromosome Xq13. Assembly of these subunits of the receptor is significant for transduction signal into B and T cells.
