Introduction | Complement C3c is a cleaved product of complement C3. During the activation of complement system, C3 is cleaved into C3a and C3b fragments by C3 convertase. The C3b fragment can be degraded into iC3b when cleaved by complement factor I. iC3b serves as 'inactive' C3b unable to associate with complement factor B, which prevents amplification of the complement cascade through the alternative pathway. iC3b will be cleaved by trypsin-like enzymes releasing C3c and C3dg, and C3dg can be further cleaved into C3g and C3d. |
