| Introduction | Complement C4b is a protein fragment released from the cleavege of C4. In the activated complement classical pathway or the lectin pathway, C1s and MASP-2 cleave the complement component 4 (C4) alpha chain into C4a and C4b fragments. C4b is an important member of the complement cascade that participates in the formation of the C3 convertases (C4bC2b) and C5 convertases (C4bC2bC3b). Complement C4d is a degradation product of C4b when cleaved by Factor I. Complement C4D has been recognized as a marker of complement activation, which has been used as an indicator in the evaluation of cellular and antibody mediated rejection in a variety of tissues. |
