Complement C5b is a protein fragment released from cleavage of complement component C5 by protease C5-convertase. C5b, together with C6, C7, C8, and C9, form the membrane attack complex (MAC), which is formed on the surface of pathogen cell membranes and contributes to cell lysis. |
