Introduction

Complement C3A, together with C3B, are proteins released from cleavage of complement C3 protein. C3a is a 77 residue anaphylatoxin that binds to the C3a receptor (C3aR), a class A G protein-coupled receptor. C3 plays an important role in both innate immunity and adaptive immunity by functioning as an effector of the complement system including T cell activation and survival, angiogenesis stimulation,chemotaxis, mast cell degranulation, and macrophage activation.
