Creative Biolabs is one of the leading custom antibody generation and development providers. We specialize in the generation of antibodies against a wide range of targets for R&D, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications. Currently, we have launched a series of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) antibody development services targeting numerous diagnostic biomarkers of human diseases. Here, we introduce our IVD antibody development services targeting HSV-1,2.

Introduction of HSV-1,2

Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) are members of the large herpes virus family which consists of a series of double-stranded, enveloped DNA viruses. Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 are composed of a large, double-stranded DNA core, an icosohedral capsid, an amorphous protein tegument, and an outer lipid bilayer envelope. Typically, HSV-1 is well known for causing orofacial lesions and encephalitis of children and adults which dues to tropism for specific anatomical sites. HSV-2 mainly infects the genitalia and can cause numerous diseases, such as genital herpes, aseptic meningitis, and devastating infections of the neonate. However, HSV-1 is now being seen more often in the genitalia due to the decreasing prevalence of orolabial HSV-1 in the young adult population and increase in the frequency of oral sex. Furthermore, there is no absolute site for either virus, as there is mixing and matching of both viral subtypes.

Correlation of HSV-1,2 and STDs

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) 1 and HSV-2 infections are highly prevalent worldwide and are characterized by establishing lifelong infection with periods of latency interspersed with periodic episodes of reactivation. As one of the most common sexually transmitted infections, it can also act as a potential risk factor for acquisition of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) though mostly asymptomatic. In previous decades, genital herpes was primarily caused by HSV-2 through sexual actions. But during the current century, the percentage of HSV-1 as a causative agent of genital herpes infections has increased high in many developed countries. Moreover, in some recent studies, HSV-1 has been shown to be the predominant type of HSV during primary infection.
