Creative Biolabs has proudly developed a unique in vitro diagnostic (IVD) antibody discovery platform for the development of IVD antibodies against various biomarkers of different diseases. Based on our excellent platform and extensive experience, our highly professional scientists at Creative Biolabs are confident in offering the best services and high-quality products to satisfy each demand from our customers all over the world. Here, we focus on IVD antibody development services for Shigella.

Introduction of Shigella

Shigella is a genus of Gram-negative, nonspore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped bacteria. Shigella species can be classified into four serogroups: Shigella dysenteriae (15 serotypes), Shigella flexneri (6 serotypes), Shigella boydii (19 serotypes), and Shigella sonnei (1 serotype). Among them, Shigella flexneri is the most commonly isolated species in the world. Shigellosis is a type of diarrhea caused by four specific types of Shigella. Shigella infection is typically by ingestion and even less than 100 bacterial cells can cause an infection depends on the health of the host. After ingestion, the Shigella species first invade the epithelial lining of the colon and lead to severe inflammation and death of the cells. And then the subsequent present of diarrhea and even dysentery would be the hallmarks of Shigella infection. Some strains of Shigella can generate toxins which contribute to various diseases during infection. Globally shigellosis occurs in at least 80 million people and leads to approximately 100,000 deaths every year. Developing countries are the most important disease area and young children are the most affected group. In general, Shigellosis is spread by exposure to infected feces and contaminated food. Water or hands are also the important routes of infection. Nowadays, the diagnosis of shigellosis is by stool culture.

Symptoms of Shigellosis

The symptoms of shigellosis generally present one or two days after exposure and typically last five to seven days.

  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Pain with passing stool

Complications of Shigellosis

  • Post-infectious arthritis
  • Sepsis
  • Seizures
  • Hemolytic uremic syndrome

Anti-Shigella Antibody Development Service

Antibodies are core elements for antibody-based immunoassays for detecting and quantifying antigens of interest in all kinds of samples such as serum, urine, tissue preparations, and so on. IVD antibodies are extensively used for disease screening, prognosis, and therapeutic monitoring. With our versatile IVD platform, Creative Biolabs is proud to develop novel anti-Shigella antibody from scratch to commercial IVD kit (we can also start with provided antibody candidates).

We are always dedicated to assisting our clients with the most satisfactory IVD antibody development services that are tailor-designed to meet your specific needs. If you are interested in our services, please do not hesitate to contact us for more details.
