| Background | The Homeobox protein of homology 2 is a protein encoded by the EN2 gene in humans. It is a member of the gene family involved. Genes containing homeoboxes are believed to play a role in controlling development. In Drosophila, "evolved" (en) genes play an important role in the development of segmentation, and segmentation is required to form the posterior chamber. The different mutations En1 and En2 in the mouse homologs produce different developmental defects, which are usually fatal. Homologs 1 and 2 that humans participate in encode proteins containing homologous domains and participate in the control of pattern formation during the development of the central nervous system. |
