FunctionIL-8 is a chemokine that can attract neutrophils, basophils and T cells, but not monocytes. It is also involved in the activation of neutrophils. It is released from several types of cells under inflammatory stimuli. Compared with IL-8(1-77), IL-8(6-77) has a 5-10 fold increase in the activation of neutrophils. IL-8(5-77) has an increased effect on neutrophil activation. The activity is increased, and IL-8 (7-77) has a higher affinity for receptors CXCR1 and CXCR2.
