Full Name	Interleukin 17F
Background	Interleukin 17A (IL-17 or IL-17A) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine. This cytokine is produced by a group of T helper cells called T helper cells 17 in response to their stimulation of IL-23. Initially, Th17 was identified by Rouvier et al. in 1993. He isolated IL17 transcripts from rodent T cell hybridomas. The protein encoded by IL17A is a founding member of the IL-17 family (see below). The IL17 protein has a high degree of homology with the viral IL-17-like protein encoded in the T-lymphocyte rhamnose virus herpes virus Semiri virus genome. In rodents, IL-17 is commonly referred to as CTLA8.
