Creative Biolabs offers a wide range of preclinical toxicology assessment services to promote our global customer's IND-enabling process development. Our scientists and specialists have extensive experience in assisting our customers with the selection of appropriate methods and assays in compliance with regulatory requirements. With cutting-edge technology and advanced platform, now we can provide a variety of assays to help our clients determine the renal toxicity of test substance.

Importance of Renal Toxicity Assessment

Nephrotoxicity, also known as renal toxicity, is a continuing concern during drug development. Studies have shown that numerous substances, such as toxic chemicals and medications, can induce kidney toxicity by one or more common pathogenic mechanisms. Generally, renal toxicity refers to acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. Importantly, once a human is diagnosed with acute kidney injury after exposure to toxic chemicals, it means that the rapid loss of renal function and the precursor of acute renal failure. While, chronic kidney disease indicates it is a long process that may result in end-stage kidney disease and requiring dialysis or kidney transplant. Therefore, it is critical to determine the potential kidney toxicity of new drugs before clinical trials.

Renal Toxicity Evaluation Services Provided by Creative Biolabs

Renal tubular cells, such as proximal tubule cells (RPTEC), are vulnerable to the toxic effects of drugs as their role in concentrating and reabsorbing glomerular filtrate which exposes them to high levels of circulating toxins. Based on the specific characteristic, RPTEC can be used as ideal cell choice when developing models for assessing the potential nephrotoxicity of test articles. With latest technologies and our experience scientists, Creative Biolabs is capable of offering both 2D and 3D reliable cell-based kidney models for our worldwide customers, which including but not limited to:

  • 2D kidney model using human primary RPTEC alone
  • 3D kidney model using human primary RPTEC alone
  • 3D kidney model using human primary RPTEC in co-culture with human primary renal cortical epithelial cells and human primary renal fibroblasts

In addition to advice on study design, Creative Biolabs can provide our clients with in-depth analysis of the cellular responses behind the nephrotoxicity. Furthermore, we can also provide a comprehensive pipeline of preclinical toxicology services following as below. If you are interested in the service we can provide, please click the links below.
