Creative Biolabs is a well-recognized global leader in building liver disease NHP models. After decades of efforts and exploration, our company gathers together many experienced scientists as well as unparalleled experimental platforms. We promise to provide the most cost-effective NHP preclinical research service to satisfy every single customer.

What is Liver Disease?

The liver plays many important roles including detoxification, protein synthesis, regulation of glycogen storage, hormone production, etc. Liver disease refers to a type of disease that causes damage to the liver tissue and many relevant physiological functions. The etiologies of liver disease are extremely diverse, varying from autoimmune disease, viral infections, and imbalanced diets to intoxications and others. Both acute and chronic liver diseases are potential threats to human health.

The Advantages of Non-human Primates (NHPs) Models

Non-human primates (NHPs) and humans are very similar in size, behavior, physiology, biochemistry, structure, and function of organs. NHPs are precious animal models for studying human diseases and/or elucidating preclinical profiles of new drugs/treatments. Research of non-human primates has made great contributions to both fundamental knowledge about pathophysiology and evaluating effective treatments for many different diseases.

Typical Liver Disease Models Provided by Creative Biolabs

Based on our state-of-the-art platforms, our company has established two well-characterized animal liver disease models:

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a kind of liver disease with fat accumulating in the liver due to causes other than using too much alcohol. NAFLD is always associated with insulin resistance and other metabolic syndromes [e.g. obesity, diabetes mellitus (type II), and high blood pressure].

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH): Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the most severe type of NAFLD. It is considered as a major cause of liver cirrhosis of unknown cause.

Our team provides the super-class DIO + CCl4 induced NAFLD and NASH model. We also apply a full range of parameters/measurements to best characterize the modeling outcomes as well as drug efficacy, including:

  • Body weight, water intake, food intake, defecation
  • Typical diabetic and lipid profiling
  • Liver-specific biochemical function tests
  • Imaging studies (e.g. non-invasive liver-specific ultrasound and magnetic resonance)
  • Percutaneous liver biopsy for determining NAFLD activity score and fibrosis score
  • Liver weight, spleen weight, ascites measurement, portal vein pressure

Liver Fibrosis/Cirrhosis Model

Liver fibrosis is a pathophysiological process referring to the abnormal proliferation of connective tissue in the liver. There are many causes of liver fibrosis, such as viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver, fatty liver, and autoimmune diseases. Our company provides various methods for establishing liver fibrosis and cirrhosis models, such as chemical-induced models, diet-induced models, surgery-based models, etc.

Acute Liver Injury (ALI) Model

ALI is an acute inflammatory disease of the liver caused by various factors, such as viral infection, improper medication, food additives, excessive intake and exposure to ethanol, ingestion of toxic food, and radiation injury. Our team provides ALI models that include rodents (mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits), as well as non-rodents such as sheep, pigs, and NHPs.

All models presented by Creative Biolabs display distinct features of human liver diseases and have been proven to be powerful tools for many liver diseases related animal studies.

Creative Biolabs is confident to deliver the most satisfying liver disease NHP models and PD investigation service to global researchers. We are also experienced in building alternative disease models such as neurological disease, renal disease, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, urogenital disease, and immune disease.
