Creative Biolabs offers the intravitreal hypertonic saline model of hypertensive intraocular pressure (IOP) and normotensive models to investigate the pathophysiologic processes of glaucoma, as well as to discover novel therapies for this condition. With extensive experience in the field of preclinical development, our professional scientists will help you select appropriate in vivo efficacy model to make your project a success.

Hypertensive

Ocular hypertension (OH) is defined as an increased intraocular pressure (IOP) greater than two standard deviations above 21mmHg (mean=16mmHg, normal range 10-21mmHg) in the absence of optic nerve damage, visual field loss or other pathology that could explain high IOP. Ocular hypertension increases the risk of developing glaucoma especially in persons with high-risk factors, including increased age, thin corneas, family history of glaucoma, increased systemic blood pressure, and diabetics.

Normotensive

Intraocular pressure (IOP) is the result of a dynamic balance between aqueous humor formation and outflow. As the main parameter in the evaluation of patients with glaucoma, it also provides the baseline pressure in ocular disease studies. Most importantly, glaucoma is often associated with a series of conditions, such as elevated IOP, glaucomatous changes in the retina and optic nerve sometimes occur at normal IOP. However, the pathophysiological relationship between glaucomas occurring at normal and elevated IOP is still a matter of debate. Therefore, it is crucial to select the appropriate animal models that effectively mimic the condition to study the etiologic and pathologic processes of glaucoma disease.

Our Capabilities

With extensive experience, Creative Biolabs can provide both the normotensive and hypertensive intraocular pressure model which have been proved have the ability to examine the onset and pathological progression in a controlled, reproducible manner. For our validation study, we compared Brown Norway and Wistar rats for IOP and their response to topical ocular treatment with drugs that has IOP lowering effect. Importantly, the elevation in IOP normalizes naturally within approximately 3 hours, and animals can be re-challenged on a weekly basis. We can also provide other models for our global clients.

Creative Biolabs is committed to helping our customers realize the full potential of their products, as well as contributing to enhancing the lives of people and animals. Our professional scientists will work closely with you with our state-of-the-art ocular technology.
