This compound, 15:0 LysoPC (Lysophosphatidylcholine), is a mono-acyl glycerophospholipid produced in vivo primarily through the hydrolysis of the sn-2 acyl chain of Phosphatidylcholine (PC) by Phospholipase A2 (PLA2). LysoPC is a significant lipid component of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL) and is implicated as a bioactive pro-inflammatory lipid. It plays an important role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases and atherosclerosis by altering various functions in vascular cells. LysoPC also serves as a critical substrate for the lysophospholipase activity of Autotaxin/LysoPLD, which generates lysophosphatidic acid, another potent signaling molecule central to cell motility.
