Description
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the most abundant lipid found in animal cell membranes, providing the essential structural scaffold. Primarily located in the outer leaflet of the plasma membrane, it is vital for maintaining cellular permeability control. PC also acts as the primary precursor for phospholipase D enzymes, which catalyze the production of crucial signaling molecules like phosphatidic acid and lysophosphatidic acid. This product is a phosphocholine that features palmitic (16:0) and linoleic (18:2) acyl chains.
