This biotin-labeled compound is phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate (PI(3,5)P2), a highly restricted and low-concentration phosphoinositide. Despite its minimal abundance, PI(3,5)P2 is absolutely essential for the dynamic regulation of the endo-lysosomal system, governing critical membrane trafficking between lysosomes, late endosomes, and the Golgi. It is also implicated in the regulation of the bulk degradation process known as autophagy.
