Description
Cardiolipin (CL) is a unique, dimeric phospholipid exclusively localized in the inner mitochondrial membrane of eukaryotes and the plasma membrane of most bacteria. It plays a critical functional role in maintaining mitochondrial membrane potential and stabilizing key enzyme complexes involved in cellular respiration. Defects in cardiolipin structure or concentration are often associated with various human diseases, including Barth syndrome and certain autoimmune disorders.
