Description
1,2-Dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoglycerol, sodium salt (DPPG) is a form of phosphatidylglycerol (PG), a small component of most cell membranes. It can be found at elevated concentrations in pulmonary surfactant. The presence of this lipid in amniotic fluid suggests fetal lung maturity and is used for clinical fetal fitness testing. PG is also utilized by cells as an intermediate in cardiolipin production.
