| Description | GlycoErase™ GCK knockout HEK293 cell line is a human embryonic kidney (HEK293) model in which GCK expression has been eliminated. GCK encodes glucokinase, a specialized hexokinase critical for glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells and glucose utilization in the liver. Mutations are associated with both diabetes and hypoglycemia. The knockout of GCK in the HEK293 background offers a functional human model for investigating glucose sensing, beta-cell signaling, and hepatic glucose metabolism, supporting diabetes research, metabolic disorder modeling, and small-molecule drug discovery. |

| Summary | This gene encodes a hexokinase that phosphorylates glucose to glucose-6-phosphate, initiating glucose metabolism. Unlike other hexokinases, this enzyme is not inhibited by its product, glucose-6-phosphate. It is expressed in the pancreas and liver, playing key roles in insulin secretion and glucose uptake. Mutations are associated with diabetes and hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia. |
