| Description | GlycoFlux™ human GCK overexpression HEK293 cell line is a stable glycoengineered line that constitutively overexpresses glucokinase (GCK), a low-affinity hexokinase that converts glucose to glucose-6-phosphate without feedback inhibition by G6P. Elevated GCK shifts carbon into glycolysis, the pentose-phosphate and hexosamine pathways, enabling controlled modulation of UDP-GlcNAc/UDP-GalNAc donor pools. Use this model to link nutrient sensing to N-/O-glycan branching, sialylation, and glycoprotein secretion quality, and to benchmark small-molecule GCK modulators for glyco-phenotype outcomes. |

| Summary | This gene encodes a hexokinase that phosphorylates glucose to glucose-6-phosphate, initiating glucose metabolism. Unlike other hexokinases, this enzyme is not inhibited by its product, glucose-6-phosphate. It is expressed in the pancreas and liver, playing key roles in insulin secretion and glucose uptake. Mutations are associated with diabetes and hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia. |
