| Description | GlycoFlux™ human HK2 overexpression HepG2 cell line is a stable cell line designed to express hexokinase 2 (HK2), the main skeletal muscle isoform that phosphorylates glucose to glucose-6-phosphate. HK2 localizes to the outer mitochondrial membrane, links glycolysis with oxidative metabolism, and is strongly induced by insulin. Its overexpression is a hallmark of highly proliferative cancer cells with elevated glycolytic flux. This system is valuable for cancer metabolism, insulin signaling, and therapeutic screening of glycolysis inhibitors. |

Due to the inherent limitations of infectious agent testing, investigators must exercise extreme caution when handling cells provided by Creative Biolabs, treating all cells as potentially biohazardous. |
| Target | HK2 |
| Full Name | Hexokinase 2 |
| Alternative Name | HKII; HXK2 |
| Location | 2p12 |
| Gene ID | 3099 |
| Summary | Hexokinase 2 is the main skeletal muscle isoform responsible for phosphorylating glucose to form glucose-6-phosphate, the initial step in most glucose metabolic pathways. It associates with the outer mitochondrial membrane and its expression responds to insulin levels. Studies in rats indicate its involvement in elevated glycolytic rates in rapidly proliferating cancer cells. |
