Description GlycoFlux™ human PDK3 overexpression HEK293 cell line produces PDK3, which phosphorylates the PDH complex E1α subunit to reduce acetyl-CoA synthesis. Predominantly expressed in heart and muscle, this line provides a system for researching mitochondrial energy metabolism and inherited defects in oxidative capacity.

Summary The pyruvate dehydrogenase complex catalyzes the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA, linking glycolysis to the TCA cycle. This complex is regulated by phosphorylation, and the encoded kinase inhibits it by phosphorylating the E1 alpha subunit. Mutations lead to defects in heart and skeletal muscle.
