Specifications
Description
Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) is a universally utilized hydrophilic second messenger generated primarily by the enzyme Phospholipase C (PLC) through the hydrolysis of Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2). The central function of IP3 is to bind to its specific receptors located on the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and other internal stores, triggering the rapid and transient release of intracellular calcium ions. This calcium ions signal is fundamental for regulating myriad cellular processes, including cell proliferation, muscle contraction, and secretion.
