PI(3)P diC8, a synthetic and purified dioctanoyl PI(3)P, belongs to the family of phosphoinositides (PIPns), which are minor membrane components but act as essential signaling molecules. Phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate is highly concentrated in early endosomes, where it facilitates endosome fusion and the sorting/internalization of receptors within multivesicular bodies. It is also found at the plasma membrane and is involved in the movement of the GLUT4 glucose transporter.
