A high-purity, synthetic preparation of dioctanoyl phosphatidylinositol (PI diC8). Phosphoinositides (PIPns) are minor membrane components but are paramount to integral cellular communication. PtdIns is synthesized from CDP-diacylglycerol and inositol, catalyzed by phosphatidylinositol synthase. This molecule is the primary building block for the entire phosphoinositide signaling family, undergoing phosphorylation by PI-kinases to form higher PIPs, and being cleaved by PI-PLC to produce the signaling lipid diacylglycerol.
