The ammonium salt of synthetic, ultra-pure dioctanoyl Phosphatidylinositol (PI diC8). Phosphoinositides (PIPns) are crucial signaling entities within cell membranes, despite their low concentration. Cellular PI or PtdIns is constructed by the enzyme phosphatidylinositol synthase, combining CDP-diacylglycerol and inositol. This lipid serves as the foundational material for all higher-phosphorylated phosphoinositide polyphosphates (via PI-kinases) and acts as the essential substrate for PI-PLC-mediated hydrolysis, which yields the key second messenger diacylglycerol (DAG).
