Description
Phosphoinositides (PIPs) are minor components of cellular membranes yet function as fundamental signaling intermediaries. Phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate (PIP3) results from the PI 3-kinase-mediated phosphorylation of PI(4,5)P2 and initiates numerous signaling cascades that control cell growth, survival, proliferation, protein synthesis, and glucose uptake. Elevated PIP3 levels resulting from aberrant PI 3-K activity are strongly associated with inflammatory diseases and various cancers. PIP3 is subsequently dephosphorylated by phosphatases, including PTEN and SHIP. This is a synthetic, purified dipalmitoyl form of PI(3,4,5)P3.
