Background
Myeloid dendritic cells are a type of white blood cell that plays a critical role in the immune system's response to pathogens. These cells are part of the innate immune system and are responsible for recognizing foreign invaders and activating other immune cells to mount a targeted response. Human myeloid dendritic cells are characterized by their expression of specific cell surface markers, such as CD11c and CD11b. They originate from bone marrow-derived progenitor cells and differentiate into specialized immune cells capable of capturing and presenting antigens to other immune cells, such as T cells. Myeloid dendritic cells are particularly important for initiating the adaptive immune response by presenting antigens to T cells and activating them to mount a targeted response against the invading pathogen. They also play a role in promoting inflammation and coordinating the overall immune response.
