The ModifiSite™ β-Glucuronidase Assay Kit offers phenolphthalein or p-nitrophenol detection for validating prodrug activation and microbial activity. This assay supports the study of drug metabolism, particularly glucuronide conjugation and hydrolysis. It is also used to monitor bacterial contamination and assess the efficacy of glucuronidase-responsive drug delivery systems.

Background
Beta-Glucuronidase cleaves glucuronic acid from substrates. Bacterial glucuronidase can reactivate excreted drug-glucuronides causing intestinal toxicity (e.g. with irinotecan).
