Mucicarmine kit is commonly used to identify the primary tumor site and differentiate between mucin-negative undifferentiated squamous cell lesions and mucin-positive adenocarcinomas. It is also used as an indication for diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis.
Description
The Mucicarmine kit is used to visualize acid mucopolysaccharides (mucins), which is useful in diagnosing the type of body fluid (according to tumor mucin secretion). It is also used in microbiology to identify microorganisms based on cell membrane color, but only in microorganisms with complete cell membranes (or parts) composed of polysaccharides.
