Human Lung Cell NCI-H460-based Proliferation Assay Service

Lung Cancer Cell Lines in Research

Lung cancer cell lines are widely available and have been distributed to researchers globally, facilitating extensive research and collaboration. There is a high (but not perfect) genomic similarity between lung cancer cell lines and the tumors from which they were derived, providing evidence of their relevance for studying lung cancer. Cell lines provide a pure population of tumor cells without the complex in vivo environment, which aids in tumor cell characterization. However, the absence of stromal, vascular, and inflammatory components in cell lines can limit the understanding of tumor behavior in a more complex environment. There may be genomic changes during the culture life of cell lines that could affect their relevance to the original tumors.

NCI-H460-based Proliferation Assay

NCI-H460 is a human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell line that was established from a patient with large cell carcinoma. It is widely used in cancer research. NCI-H460 cells are characterized by their ability to grow in vitro and are often utilized to study the biology of lung cancer, including mechanisms of tumorigenesis, drug resistance, and the effects of various therapeutic agents.

The A549 and NCI-H460 cell lines are both non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines, but they exhibit some differences. NCI-H460 cells show a significantly higher expression of hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) on their surface compared to A549 cells. The elevated HPRT expression in NCI-H460 cells might be associated with their strong proliferative ability. NCI-H460 cells grow faster than A549 cells, indicating that NCI-H460 cells are more aggressive.

Measuring the impact of a compound on NCI-H460-based proliferation assay is crucial for assessing its potential as an anticancer drug, understanding its molecular mechanisms, evaluating its cytotoxicity for drug safety, and optimizing the most effective candidate compounds in drug development. Various cell proliferation assays are provided by Creative Biolabs, and we look forward to your contact.
