DVL2 is a member of the dishevelled (Dsh) protein family, encoding a 90-kD protein that undergoes phosphorylation to form a 95-kD cytoplasmic protein. DVL2 is involved in Wnt signaling by binding to the cytoplasmic C-terminus of Frizzled family receptors and transducing the signal to downstream effectors. It also mediates the internalization and degradation of Frizzled proteins during Wnt signaling. DVL2 contributes to both canonical and non-canonical Wnt signaling pathways and interacts with multiple Wnt genes.
