FKBP52 is a member of the immunophilin protein family and serves as a steroid receptor-associated protein. It regulates microtubule dynamics and is linked to motor proteins during mitosis. FKBP52 is highly expressed in regions of the central nervous system vulnerable to Alzheimer's disease. It modulates tau protein toxicity, contributing to neurodegenerative processes, and also plays a role in male genitalia development.
